Leaving Care Transitions

This programme is designed to offer 1-1 support for care leavers moving into adulthood. They will receive mentoring from an experienced worker who will help them to overcome any barriers, independent living skills, referrals for specialist support and progress them towards their individual aspirations. The mentor will work closely with the individual’s social worker, school or supporting agency to tailor the right individual support.

Under this project we also offer a Stepladder scheme in which young people are offered educational modules to complete. Upon completion of each module the participant can earn money, which can be used toward flat deposits, driving lessons or further educational pursuits. This aids our young people in their progression into adulthood and the working environment.

In addition to this, Cumbria Youth Alliance also offer low level mental health support for our young care leavers. The programme offers 1:2:1 tailored support to help young care leavers access a wide range of activities that will support their personal growth and improve their mental health. These include:
Emotional Resilience
Managing money & Budgeting Looking after mental health
Confidence building
